I’ve been thinking long and hard about which post to use to kick off the Master of Light Chick site to the world. I have plenty of old writings to choose from along with new naughty spiritual material to use but I suppose there is nothing like the present to kick it off!
I am writing with green/blonde hair. This is in no way intentional. It is the result of trying out a new colorist in town. I’m not too happy.
You see, I am a Leo like the Lion. When one thinks of a lion, one thinks of their gorgeous mane. Mine happens to be blonde, though I do think manes of other colors are appealing as well. In fact, my Pekingese, aka “the lion dog”, has a gorgeous mane of light brown. My mother threatens to give him a puppy cut in the summer. She simply doesn’t understand the link between a lion’s hair and their self confidence. Giving Mr. Booda a puppy cut would not only emasculate him but it would upset him to no end. He loves strutting down NYC streets with his wonderful mane flowing as do I.
Anyway, the one thing I am obsessed with in this life is to have gorgeous blonde hair. When I lived in San Francisco, I would actually fly to Los Angeles to have my hair done because the colorists in SF insisted on producing drab ordinary blondes to fit in with the other corporate drones. Whatever…even though I was a mere accountant, the least I could do to enhance my boring life was to have fabulous hair. I longed to be rock star/movie star blonde at whatever the cost.
My first time in Los Angeles is when I saw what gorgeous blonde hair could be. I went to Art Luna just above Melrose and each and every woman walked out with drop dead gorgeous hair cuts and color. I thought what a waste of money the poor women (not in monetary terms) around the country were experiencing with their colorists. May as well just stay home and do your own color in the sink if you are not going to have fabulous hair color.
Fast forward to living in New York City. Sure, I tried the supposed top salons in the city, such as Oribe and others. None could replicate California blonde…none. So, I still fly out to L.A. to get my hair done. It has been the perfect excuse to get a little R&R and look fabulous at the same time.
Near home, however, I met an excellent stylist who encouraged me to try a blonde Italian colorist he knew. Images came to my mind of a Marilyn Monroe/Sophia Loren type looking woman. I was totally excited. Finally, I had high hopes of someone I could trust in the East.
Not having my breath taken away by Marilyn/Sophia, I instead saw a little woman with drab/dark blonde hair. I was neither happy nor confident but she assured me she could replicate what I had going on from L.A. Well, not only did she not replicate it and turned it into horrid shades of out of the box blonde, but she also made it turn green! I kid you not. Walking out of the salon everyone was looking at me with dropped jaws. That is not the feeling you want after spending hours sitting in a chair. You want to feel gorgeous and on top of the world.
But, this is not the point of the story. I can deal with the green and will hop on a plane in a couple weeks and have my L.A. angel fix it all up. The point of the story is what this colorist said to me during the session.
We were discussing hair, in general, and the specifics behind the hair color of certain celebrities and why their hair looks so nice. Here is my problem with this NON Marilyn Monroe/Sophia Loren fake Italian from Rome. She said celebrities get paid millions of dollars so should have gorgeous hair. The average woman is different. She does not get paid that kind of money so doesn’t need to look so fabulous. HELLO?! I am NOT average nor are many woman I meet and know. In fact, does any woman think she is average and deserve “less than” another? I don’t think so!
This is perhaps why I enjoy going to L.A. for my beauty services. They treat every woman like a STAR getting ready to walk on set or onto a photo shoot. Not one woman is treated as less than another when it comes to the final product. Oh, you over there – you are only a house wife, so we are going to put less than special products in your hair while Cameron Diaz gets the best. NO! Every woman is treated like ROYALTY and that is the way it should be.
Each and every one of us has a special role to play here in this game called life. Not one person is less than another. And, it drives me crazy to no end when that myth is perpetuated and people try to keep other people down in the dumps. We should be raising one another up instead and helping each other to find one another’s personal best.
